How to resist these meals. I am hungry now! Just stare at it "pun sudah kenyang" (already full)
Sedap Nasi Kandar is located at Aman Suria, next to T-Bun Cyber Cafe, opposite Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar. The workers are extra-hardworking and courteous at work. The food server is generous with rice and curry sauces. He will scoop big scoops of dishes upon your request for you. They charged reasonably. A neighbourhood nasi kandar to spice up one's hunger. You can eat there to evade the LDP traffic jam. What's more, we can sit there and lepak 24 Jam. What is Nasi Kandar ha?

Nasi Kandar is a popular northern Malaysian dish, which originates from Penang. It is a meal of steamed rice which can be plain or mildly flavored, and served with a variety of curries and side dishes.

The word Nasi Kandar, came about from a time when nasi [rice] hawkers or vendors would kandar [balance] a pole on the shoulder with two huge containers of rice meals. The name has remained and today the word Nasi Kandar is seen on most Tamil Muslim or "Malaysian Mamak" restaurants and Indian-Muslim stalls offering rice meals. Nasi Kandar can make you addicted and get fat if you consumed often. Eat to ease your urge but not curry and rice flood!

Chicken Rice @ Restoran Choon Yien, Jalan 17/13, PJ Selangor

"You better order fast, or else the char siu( BBQ pork) and ayam (chicken), finish oar, a loud-voice man approached us and we were stunned with culture shock!

Huh! What a unpleasant approach from an order-taker. He made his own decision with the order and walked away. Suddenly, we felt that we were like in a snobbish city. Just felt uneasy but have to take it easy.

We wanted to try the famous beef noodles but later arrived at Restoran Choon Yien which is a corner Coffee Shop. I have read so much about this famous chicken rice, char siu and roast pork from fellow bloggers. Why not go for food survey? When we arrived it was lunch hour and the business was rather good with most office people already finished eating and were chatting there.

The chicken rice and chilly sauces arrived first. The rice served were not as prettily set as in this picture. I have done a make-up to it for a photography session. The chilly sauce were served generously and it suited our taste-buds.
No soup served as highlighted by most bloggers.

Char Siu (BBQ pork) tasted good, sweet with honey combination. The char siu were too fatty and my son enjoyed eating them. Many people do not prefer too fatty char siu.

The roasted chicken tasted average but good with crispy skin. It came with garlic crisps and generous spring onions and coriander leaves which many chicken rice shop exercise cost savings on these veges. Do you notice that only Penang hawkers do add these garnish?

We were served about 10 minutes by the same man. He introduced himself as James. He was able to steal time (busy lunch time) to ask whether we were first-comers and offered his telephone contact and yet carefully double checking the correct number taken down by my daughter (he preferred to talk to my daughter instead of me, hs). "If you want to come, just call me and said KJ (Kelana Jaya as he asked where we were from) and I'll know. Just tell your portion of ayam, only".

As a common practice of kopitiam service, pay when food is serve, he said 'eat first lah, later pay' when I wanted to pay James. He speaks more Malay than English language and no Canto dialect heard.

When my daughter went over to the stall to pay him RM23.00, he exclaimed " if you want to tapau home, you can keep them for a month, cannot get rot". What a lansee (vain) promotional jargon!

When I asked whether he sells any roasted duck, he said "we don't
play duck here". Wtf, wth, uneasy with his english lah.

Look, still so many customers still patronized this coffee shop for it's Chicken Rice and Char Siu. What's more with the weird-ayam-captain on duty. If I go there again, I wonder whether he can recognise us or otherwise. Also, to see whether he still carries the same attitude. What men, talk about foodlah, talk about James only... rare experience encountered mah!

Restoran Kanna Banana Leaf Rice, Section 17, PJ, Selangor

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kanna Banana Leaf Rice is popular with it's hill-top atmoshere and mild curry flavours. When you are seated, a group of energetic Waiters will approach you for orders. No need to go in to the restaurant if you choose to dine at the open-air area. Just order what you want and they will serve you. And this is the wide range of marinated seafood ready to be fried. Tempting right?

Quickly, one Waiter will lay banana leaves on the table and another will scoop rice generously and another one will scoop those veges and curries for you. However, the "triplet-container' with dhal, curry fish and curry chicken sauces will be left on your table for you to enjoy. You can even request for more if you like. Normally, we asked for dhall refill. Sedap!

When we order fried squid, they communicated from one end to another, across the road and there the chef will do his frying. It was served shorty, hot and aromatic with lots of curry leaves and large onion crisps. A must to order wherever I eat at Kanna. Best!

Fried chicken is delicious and meat is soft. It is tastier to eat banana leaf rice with hand and your fingers will do a good job like the Indians. No wonder, we can tear and squeeze meat easily rather than using the elegant-way of fork and spoon. Well, I saw lots of youngsters doing the same and happily eating under the trees. What a muhibbah culture!

Lamb ribs readily available at food counter. A suitable dish for wet saucy food. This piece is the size of 3 ribs in one piece and tasted good with soft meat texture. With the standard serving of rice, vegetables, acar. fried squid, chicken, curry lamb ribs and drinks, the total bill is RM40.37 for three persons. The price are reasonable as we patronised Kanna at least twice a month.

Front view of Kanna Restaurant with 2 shoplots. You can choose to dine indoor and outdoor. No pictures of outside view as there were many diners around. Some diners will not be happy to be photographed and I have to respect their dinner ambience. We prefer outdoor as we like the dining under the trees with fresh air environment. Next post for more pictures, ok?

See.. these hard-working Waiters are not only energetic at work. They are hardworking in inviting pictures to be taken. When I go near to snap the marinated seafood, they are ready there for my clicking. What a team? See, their smiling faces and thumbs up. Tauke Kanna, if you read my blog, remember to make them happier and your customers will be even happier.

Ha ha ha.. This Waiter came to me and asks

Murugesan: Saya tak ade ke
Callie : Apa tak ede?
Murugesan : Dalam!
Callie : Ah? Dalam?
Murugesan : (Pointing at my camera) tu...
Callie : Oh.. Mari saya tangkap gambar mu.
Murugesan : Ayoyo... saya pun ada gambar.

See the way he post is just like John Trovolta in the 80's after the Saturday Night Fever Dance.
I show him the picture from my camera and he was even more happier. Will give him this picture if I eat there again next week.

So once they are happy, they will make customers happy. Go there to have banana leaf rice if you want to be happy.
