Yau Char Kway aka Yau Tiew

3 in a team business. If you are having breakfast at SS2 Chow Yang Kopitiam, you will never miss this family business attraction. They have been in this business for quite a long time around that area.

The man is busy doughing, cutting, strectching, rubbing and slowly letting his creation flow into the hot-oil-wok. The young man will be busy taking pre-orders and collecting money when customers return to collect their order. But here he was pictured eating. He must be taking a quick breakfast break while the customers flow slow down.

The woman is seen patiently keeping an eye at them, turning and concentrating on the 1st - in first- out 'Yau Char Kwai, Ham Chim P'ng and etc.

I sort of quite fed-up as when I wanted to buy some, the young man tells me 'no more', finish!
What! I can see so many pieces still lying there. He told me all pre-ordered. Oh ! Next time if you feel like eating them, place you order where he will write them down in a school exercise book. Go and enjoy a bowl of Lim's Prawn Mee, Pohpiah or Char Kuey Teow .Then, proceed to the stall again and you will sure to be happy to have your wonders. The young man told me this procedures. Argh!!!! Did not get to buy any, I get to snap these pictures with Nokia 6500 slide phone.

Youtiao, you char kway, or yau ja gwai, sometimes known in English as Chinese cruller[4] or fried bread stick, is a long, golden-brown, deep fried strip of dough in Chinese cuisine and other East and Southeast Asian cuisines and is usually eaten for breakfast. Conventionally, youtiao are lightly salted and made so they can be torn lengthwise in two. Youtiao are normally eaten as an accompaniment for rice congee or soy milk. Read more.

Motor Bike Laksa

See. This Motor Bike Laksakha can still be seen in Penang. Those days in Penang when I was in secondary school, this lasakha will come in his cart with their economy yet best laksa.

They also have deep fried oily spring rolls and small pieces of nyonya kuih available for sale. They will go round their favourite areas riding this motorbike earning a living daily.

So nice of him. We asked him to pose and he really obliged. That's the spring rolls that we bought. We were told that these type of hawkers are rich and can afford to go back to India yearly.

The laksa looks cheap and it's cheap at RM2.00. Order to prepare version. He will only slice the tumeric flowers, cucumber and chillies when he prepares the laksaha for you. Emm.. nice with hot piping soup.

Eagerly waiting for a bowl of laksa since 1989

Only available at my knowledge outside Botanical Gardens, Penang.
Anyone can tell me where else can I get to eat this kind of Laksa other
than at this place. We even brought home 2 packets for our 2nd round.

Chicken Rice @ Restoran Choon Yien, Jalan 17/13, PJ Selangor

"You better order fast, or else the char siu( BBQ pork) and ayam (chicken), finish oar, a loud-voice man approached us and we were stunned with culture shock!

Huh! What a unpleasant approach from an order-taker. He made his own decision with the order and walked away. Suddenly, we felt that we were like in a snobbish city. Just felt uneasy but have to take it easy.

We wanted to try the famous beef noodles but later arrived at Restoran Choon Yien which is a corner Coffee Shop. I have read so much about this famous chicken rice, char siu and roast pork from fellow bloggers. Why not go for food survey? When we arrived it was lunch hour and the business was rather good with most office people already finished eating and were chatting there.

The chicken rice and chilly sauces arrived first. The rice served were not as prettily set as in this picture. I have done a make-up to it for a photography session. The chilly sauce were served generously and it suited our taste-buds.
No soup served as highlighted by most bloggers.

Char Siu (BBQ pork) tasted good, sweet with honey combination. The char siu were too fatty and my son enjoyed eating them. Many people do not prefer too fatty char siu.

The roasted chicken tasted average but good with crispy skin. It came with garlic crisps and generous spring onions and coriander leaves which many chicken rice shop exercise cost savings on these veges. Do you notice that only Penang hawkers do add these garnish?

We were served about 10 minutes by the same man. He introduced himself as James. He was able to steal time (busy lunch time) to ask whether we were first-comers and offered his telephone contact and yet carefully double checking the correct number taken down by my daughter (he preferred to talk to my daughter instead of me, hs). "If you want to come, just call me and said KJ (Kelana Jaya as he asked where we were from) and I'll know. Just tell your portion of ayam, only".

As a common practice of kopitiam service, pay when food is serve, he said 'eat first lah, later pay' when I wanted to pay James. He speaks more Malay than English language and no Canto dialect heard.

When my daughter went over to the stall to pay him RM23.00, he exclaimed " if you want to tapau home, you can keep them for a month, cannot get rot". What a lansee (vain) promotional jargon!

When I asked whether he sells any roasted duck, he said "we don't
play duck here". Wtf, wth, uneasy with his english lah.

Look, still so many customers still patronized this coffee shop for it's Chicken Rice and Char Siu. What's more with the weird-ayam-captain on duty. If I go there again, I wonder whether he can recognise us or otherwise. Also, to see whether he still carries the same attitude. What men, talk about foodlah, talk about James only... rare experience encountered mah!

Kedah Chee York Fan

NON-HALAL

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Chee York Fan at Kedah is a little different from KL or PJ. They served with more meat including kidney and liver. Priced at RM4.00, the noodles are soft and smooth.

Assorted ice-cream for the hot weather. I think I have not seen them here in KL yet. Ideal for little children but I saw most adults helped themselves with these cubes ice-creams one after another.

Looks like Mamak-Roti-Canai Bungkus, right? It's Nasi Lemak packed in this style. It tasted good with curry cooked in strong aromatic spices, a piece of fried chicken, long beans and a quarter egg.

Price at RM1.50 per pack. Apologies as I have forgotten to capture the food and we were too hungry for food and have forgotten about it.

We went to this Kopitiam twice for other hawker food but could not resist the 2 items as above. So what do you think ah? Sure good leh!

Popiah Basah Section 14

Yo... see how great this business is to these small food traders. Just imagine, how many popiahs they sell daily and watch the customers Q just for popiah! They are willing to wait for their turns. No wonder, The Star published this awesome video. Just for keep here.

The Star Wrote:-
Popiah Basah At Ramadan Bazaar In Section 14, PJ. The popularity of the Popiah Basah at Ramadan Bazaar in Section 14, Petaling Jaya is astonishing. The queue would sometimes stretch to a staggering 50 metres right up to the mosque with people wanting to buy some popiah.

Penang Char Kuey Teow

Hawker Food. Who don't like Penang Char Kuey Teow?

Look at the 3 large prawns, the fine slices of lamcheong and clams. This is the mouth watering char kuey teow, price at RM5.00 without egg, the Lorong Selamat Redcap Auntie's version. She is quite 'lansee' at times.

Any idea where is the Apek kuey teow opposite this Redcap Auntie's stall? No sign of him and I hope he is still in good health. His koayteow is my favourite.

Nasi Lemak Cold Storage

Who don't like this mini packet nasi lemak? Coconut rice with sambal, deep fried anchovies, groundnuts and 1/4 egg are the standard pack nasi lemak which cost from 80cents to RM1.00.

Some add sambal squid, clam, chicken, fish, petai prawns and so on. The picture above is Nasi Lemak Kerang with at least 8 big size kerangs provided. Not too bad especially for quick lunch, eat-in or take-away. Will buy more next time. Go go and grab some. They have chicken and egg type too.

I found this at Cold Storage. Look they are neatly packed with Cold Storage's wrapper lined with a generous piece of banana leaf and brand in with a printed label and handsomely tag with CD RM2.00.

If I wanna do Nasi Lemak Packet Business, I will benchmark this stylish packaging. Sedappppp dan murahhhhhhhhhh.

Ho Liau Penang Prawn Mee

DSC01601 copy

Penang Prawn Mee is an addicted mee besides Assam Laksa. We must have this for breakfast during the weekends. Some hawker stalls or cafe claim that their 'Har Mee" are original Penang Har Mee. Just be extra careful, they may turn up to 'Maggi Mee Har Mee' and claim to be ' Ho Liau" and you will regret the amount of money paid for a big bowl of noodles + 5% Govt Tax plus 5 to 10% SC.

prawn mee
Just go to 1) Restoran Gembira, Taman Megah, a husband and wife team, I grade No 1, Ho Liau
2) Taman Tun Coffee Shop facing Perodua, a slim auntie and a maid team. I grade No 2, Ho Liau
3) Seapark Coffee Shop, behind KFC, a big size auntie with hubby team. I grade No 3, Ho Liau

These stalls are the best sellers in Penang Prawn Mee. Believe me, go go go go and try them out. You will love the noodles, the soup and of course till the last drop of the soup. Slrppppppppppppp. errrrrrk.

INDIAN ROJAK

This is another version of rojak in Penang, Look at the plate of seafood and fried items generously coated with a special indian rojak sauce. I like to see this Indian Guy at work. He is so joyful and enjoying his work at the busy Gruney Drive Hawker's Paradise dancing away to the rhythm of his same song. Crazy, I stop to buy his performance first and next his rojak. Trust me..... support him. Tell him that you want to snap a pic and he will even perform better with his slow motion of sausage cutting, eye-brow expressions and dancing-to-pour-kuah. Ha.. ha.. I will sure to visit him again! Forget to snap the food, cos' he is too entertaining. Sucess Adik Rojak.

PENANG ROJAK

This is the best rojak that I like, with thick shrimp paste aromatic fragrant and of course with a splash of goundnuts and a little chilly paste. Mixed them well with these fresh fruits and will be satisfied at least to taste the original Penang Rojak.

This is the stall that serves the best rojak with some bunch of artificial (looks real) mangos hanging at her stall. So tempting! See Below Pic.
