Sweet Sour Dory Fish Fillet


Went to Giant Mall at Kelana Jaya after reading the special promotion with low price and wide range of products. Not really as advertised. Not much seafood available for sales during the busy weekends with lot's of housewives, working people, young and old patronising GiantHypermarket to buy their weekly stuffs. Bought some reasonable priced dory fish fillets. So here goes the the easy and favourite dish for my family dinner meals.

How I cook this Dish

Wash dory fish fillet, soak in salt water for 20 minutes.( I discover some clorox smell impression so I have to be extra careful. I was told that most imported frozen seafood contains high level of preservative which is necessary for food handling). Rinse fish thoroughly and wipe them dry with kitchen towel. Cut fish into 1/2 inch thick and marinate them with some pepper, salt, soy sauce, chicken granules and a little oil. Leave them in the fridge for 20 minutes or longer.

Next, beat an egg. Scoop 1/2 cup of maizena corn flour, mix with some white and black pepper and a little salt.(If you don't have the Kentucky or Nona ready-mix batter flour) Mix well. Dip fish into egg and coat marinate fish with flour one after another til lfinish.

Heat up wok, add in sufficient oil. Add in fish neatly and deep fry for 20 minutes under medium flame. Use a timer while you can meddle with your other work. Once done, dish out and place on a plate line with oil absorbent paper. Later, transfer fish to a flat plate and arrange fish on plate.

In a sauce-pan, add a little oil, pour in some mince garlic, shallots and 3 slices of ginger. Saute till fragrant. Add in cucumber, capcicum, large onions, pineapple cubes, 3 tbsp tomato sauce, 1 tbsp chilly sauce (optional)and 1/2 cup of water. Stir gently and let it simmer for a while. Lastly add in 1/2 tsp of sugar and 2 dash of sesame oil, stir once, twice, thrice and it's done. Pour sauce on half portion of fish as you can still enjoy the other portion of original fried crunhcy fish fillet. Real best, everyone loves it.
