I have bitter-gourd and some tenderloin beef in my fridge. My son is asking "Mom, what are you cooking for lunch today?.
Usually, lunch with my son is simple (because he is food-simply but big-eater). I have decided to cook this dish for him. He do not really fancy bitter gourd but beef. We have this dish and slow-fry sunshine eggs for lunch.
Phew, he eats non-stop and of course with MOM's promotion that 'eat more bitter gourd, you will be more handsome, no pimples ley. Actually, this is true, bitter gourd juice or soup get get rid of toxic and purify your liver, some old grandmas said. The small ones, sold at Pasar Tani.
How to Cook This Dish
Slice gourd into 2. Scoop out seeds with a spoon.
Cut gourd finlely in slant stripes. Blanch in hot boiling water to remove the bitterness.
Wash and slice beef finely. Marinate with a dash of white pepper and black pepper, chicken granules, 1 tbsp of soy sauce and1 tbsp of corn flour. Mix well and leave to marinate in fridge for 30 mins.
Heat pan with oil. Saute some chopped minced garlic, shallot and ginger till brown. Add in beef and quickly stir fry for 1 minute. Add in a few drops of fish gravy. As you see the beef turning to lighter colour, add in the cooked gourd. Stir fry for a while. Add in 1/2 cup of chicken stock/water. Cook for a little while.
Dish out and serve. Best with white rice and stir-fry sunshine eggs. Emmmm.
